A Twist of Fate -- Reviews

(4 stars) . . . a heartwarming tale of second chances and new beginnings, which Susannah Carleton's already loyal fans will love.
-- Romantic Times Magazine

A Perfect Ten.  A TWIST OF FATE proves a book doesn't need sin, sex and edgy suspense to completely hold a reader's interest. It's a tale told with subtlety and charm about two honest and honorable, thoughtful and generous people, who have not let their suffering sour them. Nor does a hero need to be blatantly Alpha to be attractive. David is all that is best in a Beta male: sensitive, yet strong; loving, yet respectful; restrained, yet virile; tender, but with passion under control. When is the last time your heart rejoiced over a courtship conducted with kindness and true courtesy?
Ms. Carleton wrote A TWIST OF FATE in the very best traditional Regency manner, and reminded me that the best books are about people. It isn't easy taking a seemingly simple plot and endowing it with a wealth of riches. She made me really care about her characters and deeply thankful to have met them. I wish there were many more novels like A TWIST OF FATE.

(4 hearts)    A Twist of Fate is a quiet, sweet romance. David is the perfect personification of the beta hero, the kind of man that every mother wants her daughter to marry. Lynn is a woman who is beset by understandable reservations about marrying again and understandable fears about her ability to accept her marital duties. The discovery of David's high social position only adds to her misgivings. But in the end she is strong enough to reach out to the future.
Susannah Carleton has written a gentle and enjoyable romance about the healing power of love. Those readers who enjoy sweet stories will certainly enjoy A Twist of Fate.
-- Jean Mason, The Romance Reader

"Ah, at last--a refreshing Regency of the most charming kind! . . . this was one of those stories I did not want to see come to an end, because I enjoyed being in the world that the author created for me . . . and being with the characters she created. I identified readily with the heroine, who knew what she wanted but whose fears held her back, and I fell madly in love with the hero . . . if you love the strong but tender, protective but kind-hearted good-guy types, David Winterbrook will melt you.
"Once again I find myself looking forward to Susannah Carleton's next book."
 -- Barbara Hume, Rakehell

"Fans of Susannah Carleton will find this a less dramatic, action-filled story than her two previous novels, and yet more emotionally intense. A gentle urgency prevails as David attempts to overcome the wounded widow's barricades before he hurries home to his beloved daughter. There is a lot to overcome in a relatively short period of time.
"David and Madeline are both thoughtfully written, three-dimensional characters. Here is a truly sensitive hero, with a compelling strength and grace that will captivate readers' hearts. How can Lynn resist? As for the heroine, despite her initial reserve, born of almost unendurable strife and suffering, she is something of a mother hen, with a generous, nurturing spirit that readers will admire. These are characters to believe in and to remember, long after the final page is turned.
"The story is romantic; the setting, idyllic; the Regency detail, exquisite. A TWIST OF FATE is a "must read" novel from a writer who has quickly become a "must buy" author! Don't miss this one!"
